Am i textin him too much or does he care...? dont want to be annoying... :/?

ive been textin a guy for awhile and weve become pretty good friends. were both 16 tho hes not in school becuase he moved near the end of the year. i told him once that i should let him go instead of takin all his time and he said he didn't mind, he loved talking to me and i was funny. ok, thats good right? hah but then im always the one who starts the conversation or something, he never text me first except for sayin good morning every now and then. when i text him, he always replies with hi and and a smiley face unless hes sad about something. anyways my question is am i textin him too much or does he like me texting him all the time? i dont want to annoy him so id like to know how much is too much texting....? THnkz :)
